Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026
Placeholder draft. This page is an outline of what the final document will cover. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not the final, binding text.
The final policy will be written with a lawyer before launch. Until then, this outline describes how the product is designed to handle your information.
What you give us
- Account details: email address, password (or your Apple or Google sign-in), date of birth and gender.
- Profile details you choose to add: photos, role, what you are looking for, your city, and your written answers.
- What you write: requests, messages and forum posts.
- Optional sensitive details — religion, politics and ethnicity. You never have to give these; every one of them has a “Prefer not to say” answer.
- A verification selfie, if you verify your profile.
What other members see
- Your age, never your birthday.
- Your city, never your exact location. Distances are measured between city centres and rounded.
- Your forum name is separate from your dating profile. Forum posts show your forum name and role badge only.
- You choose who can send you requests and who can see your private album.
- Dating profiles and photos are never shown to people who are not logged in, or to search engines.
Your location
- When you set up your profile, we suggest a city from the approximate location of your internet connection. You see the suggestion and can change it.
- “Use my location” asks your browser for your location only when you press it. Either way, we look up the nearest city and keep only that city — never your coordinates.
City and place names come from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Verification selfies
A verification selfie is used only to check that you match your profile photos. It is deleted as soon as you are verified. If it isn't matched, it is kept only in case you ask for a manual review, and deleted when that review is decided or when you take a new selfie. The final policy will include the consent wording and legal detail that face data requires.
Emails
Emails use plain, discreet subject lines. The final policy will list each kind of email and how to turn the optional ones off.
Still to be written
These sections need legal advice and are deliberately left out of this draft:
- The legal basis for each use of your information
- Which service providers handle data for us
- How long each kind of information is kept
- Your rights (access, correction, deletion, export) and how to use them
- Cookies
- Who to contact about privacy
